An increased concentration of glucocorticoid hormone in the bloodstream (produced by the adrenal gland) secondary to a pituitary corticotrophic adenoma that is secreting the hormone adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH).

ACTH stimulates the adrenal gland to produce an excess of glucocorticoids.
