<biochemistry> Formed by decarboxylation of histidine. Potent pharmacological agent acting through receptors in smooth muscle and in secretory systems.

Stored in mast cells and released by antigen. (See hypersensitivity). Responsible for the early symptoms of anaphylaxis. Also present in some venoms.
